The 2018 FIFA World Cup winners France clashed with Poland in Round of 16 for a place in the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarterfinals. The footballing giant swept aside the Robert Lewandowski-led side with quite ease.

Let's see how the game panned out.

France vs Poland (3-0)

Having faced an uncharacteristic defeat against Tunisia in their final group match, France came into this match back with an assured lineup. The last game had seen 9 changes in the France team and that was considered as one of the main reasons for their loss in the group match.

With Olivier Giroud at the helm and pacy youngsters Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele by his side, the French team looked strong on paper. The former Chelsea striker Giroud opened the scoring in the 44th minute from a Mbappe through ball.

The World Cup holders doubled down in the second half with even more aggression as Mbappe scored his third goal of the campaign in the 74th minute. There was more to come from the highest-paid footballer in the world right now as he shrugged past defenders and curled a strong effort into the top right corner.

Poland did not have any answers for the French team and Lewandowski also came out as a disappointment. He however was on the scoresheet after converting a penalty in the dying embers of the game. That was just a consolation as France's team advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-1 win against Poland.

With two goals in this match, Mbappe has taken his tally to 5 and has three more games to play in the FIFA World Cup 2022. At just 23 years old he has 9 goals in World Cup, the same as Lionel Messi who is playing in his 5th World Cup.
