Iran made the most of their one-man advantage and scored two important goals during extra time to get a result in their favour. This has ensured that Iran stays alive in Group B.
In the second half, Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent-off for a foul outside the penalty box. It gave Iran an extra man on the pitch which they used to good effect in the last dying minutes of the game. The first half, though, was a very dry affair. Neither of the two teams managed to create chances.
Iran turned the game in a matter of minutes
In the last minute of the game, Roozbeh Cheshmi provided Iran with a breakthrough as his shot hit the target. The fans were left shocked as it completely changed the complexion of the game. And then seconds later, Iran got their second goal to wrest complete control of the game from Wales.
Iran barely seconds later after they had scored the first, struck another goal during extra time. Ramin Rezaein put the ball comfortably in the nets to make a stunning upset against Whales for Iran.
Iran played their first game of FIFA World Cup 2022 against England where they were humbled to a 6-2 drubbing. This is a superb come-from-behind win against the odds for Iran. This will fuel up the Iranians at home, who are battling a political crisis at present.
Iran, who were listless in the first half, came out fighting in the second half and hit the goalpost in a matter of seconds. In the first half, neither of the two sides could outdo the other which left the half in a stalemate.
