The 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup 2022 started in fine fashion. Qatar is hosting the mega event this year. The World Cup will be on from 20th November to 18th December 2022. This will be the last World Cup that will have 32 Teams.

This is the first time the World Cup will be held in an Arab Country and only the second time that it will be held outside South Asia since 2010. The first match was played between Qatar and Ecuador, with Ecuador winning 2-0.

England vs Iran

On Monday, three matches were played at the FIFA World Cup. The first of them was the Group B match between England and Iran. For England, the match was a breeze as they had the perfect start by beating Iran comprehensively by 6-2. Bukayo Saka scored two goals for England.

England started the match in fine fashion by scoring three goals in the first half. In the second half, they got a firm grip on the match by netting another three goals. The only negative from the England side was that they let Iran get away with two scoring chances that resulted in two goals in the second half.

Senegal vs Netherlands

The second match was between Netherlands and Senegal. This was a Group A encounter. It was a very tight game between both teams, as for most of the duration of the game, neither side was able to score a goal.

The Netherlands played out of their skin in the last ten minutes of the match, and thus they were rewarded with two late goals. The first of them, which came in the 84th minute, was scored by Cody Gakpo. During stoppage time, a shot from Memphis Depay was parried to Davy Klaassen, who sent the ball in to make it 2-0 for the Dutch.

USA vs Wales

The last one was a Group B encounter which was played between the United States of America and Wales. The USA dominated the proceedings early on but left a chance to get the lead in the ninth minute. However, they scored a goal in the 36th minute.

The side from Wales were staring at defeat in their first match at the World Cup in 64 years, but the hero on the night turned out to be Gareth Bale, who scored a goal by converting the penalty in the dying moments of the match. This helped the Welsh come away with a 1-1 draw.
