One of the most respected cricketers across the globe, MS Dhoni won’t be part of the Indian team for a 20-20 World Cup for the first time since the start of the event. The legendary Indian skipper led the Indian team to a title win in the inaugural season in 2007.

He led India to all the 20-20 World Cups till the 2016 edition. Virat Kohli led the team in the 2021 edition but MS Dhoni was still present with the team as the mentor. However, the veteran cricket isn’t part of the team in any capacity in the ongoing edition of the World Cup.

While the Indian team is busy preparing themselves for the upcoming clash against Pakistan, MS Dhoni was, recently, spotted at a promotional event.

With the World Cup currently underway, the moderator of the show couldn’t resist asking a question regarding India’s chances for the 20-20 World Cup. However, it was Dhoni’s reply to that which took everyone in splits.

"So close to the World Cup, if I don't ask you a World Cup question, they are gonna lynch me." The moderator asked the question to Dhoni.

To that, MS Dhoni replied, “ I'm not playing the World Cup... The team has already left," he said.

MS Dhoni played his last international match for India in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. He, unfortunately, got run out in that game and India went on to lose that game by 18 runs. The veteran Indian cricketer retired from International cricket on 15th August 2019 but still takes part in the Indian T20 League.

The upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League is likely to be his last. He would be leading the team and has already started his preparations for the same. Ahead of the final league fixture of Chennai in the last edition, Dhoni confirmed his participation in the 2013 edition of the tournament. Here’s what he said:

"Definitely . It's a simple reason: it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you . Mumbai is one place where, as a team and as an individual, I have got a lot of love and affection. But it wouldn't be nice to the CSK fans,".
