In the series-decider clash against New Zealand in Karachi on Friday, Pakistan’s opening batter Fakhar Zaman stepped up with the bat and helped them reach a comfortable position after a couple of early blows.
Fakhar Zaman hit a valuable fifty in the first ODI of the series but followed it with a duck in the next game. Come the third and final ODI of the series and the Pakistan opener brought his A game to the table.
The southpaw opened the innings with Shan Masood. Masood couldn’t even open his account as he got out for a duck, while Babar Azam perished after scoring just 4 runs. A couple of early blows meant Pakistan were in a serious trouble at 21 for 2 in 6.3 overs. New Zealand, at that stage, were looking to put further pressure but Fakhar Zaman looked in no mood to give his wicket too easily.
He ensured he keep scoring boundaries at regular intervals and, thereby, score runs at a good pace. The southpaw mixed caution with aggression and reached his fifty in 65 balls. Fakhar and Rizwan steadied Pakistan’s ship as the duo added 154 runs for the third wicket to lay a strong foundation for a big score. Fakhar Zaman ensured he keep rotating the strike and play dots balls as less as possible, besides scoring boundaries at short intervals.
Rizwan got out leg-before off Ish Sodhi in the 33rd over after scoring 77 runs in 74 balls. But Fakhar Zaman went on to notch his 8th ODI hundred. It was one of the best knocks from the Pakistan openers and the fans too were overjoyed on social media after witnessing a special knock from a special player.
Twitter is filled with heart-warming tweets for Fakhar Zaman. Here’s a look at some of those:
Two fifties in the series for Fakhar Zaman now. It's incredible to think he wasn't included in the list of probables initially and was considered unfit. #PAKvNZ

Each of these Fakhar Zaman innings feels like the part of the Rocky montage where he's building up and slowly feeling more and more like his old self. You're nearly ready for Drago Fakhar. Keep going... #PAKvNZ
