Yuzvendra Chahal, a traditional leg-spinner from India who was not selected for the Asia Cup or the ODI World Cup, has signed a contract with Kent for their final three County Championship games in England, pending regulatory confirmation. In addition to Kent's away game against Somerset, he will be available for selection in the team's final two Championship home games against Nottinghamshire & Lancashire.

Chahal is the only second Indian international to play for Kent this season. Previously, left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh represented the team in the County Championship competition back in June and July, collecting 13 wickets in eight innings. On joining Kent in first-class cricket until the end of the season, Chahal said: “This is an exciting challenge for me, playing in English county cricket, and one I’m very much looking forward to.”

Yuzvendra Chahal snubbed, Kuldeep Yadav makes into India squad

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “We’re delighted to have secured a spinner of Yuzvendra’s quality for the last three Championship matches of the season, with Matt Parkinson not available to us until next year, and Hami Qadri recently injured. He is really looking forward to playing in English conditions and will bring a significant amount of skill and international experience to our squad.”

Yuzvendra Chahal was not chosen by the selectors for India's 16-man team for the Asia Cup, which begins on August 30 due to the necessity to lengthen the batting unit. The team's notable omission, Yuzvendra Chahal, was due to a group that is heavy on batters and pacers. As team management said since Kuldeep Yadav can bat, they chose him over Chahal.

Yuzvendra Chahal has played 23 ODIs since the end of the 2019 World Cup and has picked up 37 wickets, including 3 four-wicket hauls. However, there were signs that Chahal was below Kuldeep in the pecking order when he was benched for a 3-match ODI series against the West Indies in July.
