The England team has announced their playing XI for the fifth Test against India which is scheduled to start on July 1, 2022. England has made one change to their XI that played against New Zealand in the third Test. Debutant Jamie Overton, who shone in the Test scoring 97 runs and picking up 2 wickets, has been left out to make way for James Anderson.
England has made a total of seven changes to the playing XI that played against India in the fourth Test at the Oval, last year. With Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes coming back into the squad after missing out on the series last year, the England team is running high on confidence after whitewashing New Zealand by 3-0 in the recently concluded Test series.
While England has confirmed their playing XI for tomorrow’s game, there are still questions about India’s XI for the match. The clouds of uncertainty are looming on Rohit Sharma’s availability for the match after he tested positive for Covid-19 during the warm-up game against Leicestershire. If Rohit doesn’t get fit for the Test, India will have to search for a new opener who could either be Hanuma Vihari or Cheteshwar Pujara. There’s also news of India going in with two spinners for the match. The seam bowling department looks settled with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj expected to make it to the XI.
India are leading the series by 2-1 and are on the verge of winning their fourth Test series on the English soil. They last won a Test series in England in 2007 under the leadership of Rahul Dravid.
England XI: Zak Crawley, Alex Lees, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (c), Sam Billings (wk), Matthew Potts, Stuart Broad, Jack Leach, James Anderson
