Cristiano Ronaldo is starting a new chapter in club football as his dark and shaky chapter with Manchester United has been put behind him. Ronaldo has signed a 30-month contract with Saudi Arabia’s club al-nassa. The club announced that the deal is estimated to be more than 200 million Euros.
This two-year contract is expected to send Ronaldo's earnings through the rafters, and it will make him the highest paid player in Football ever. Right after the deal was signed, the manager of Al Nassr Rudi Garcia put a cheeky joke that he wanted Lionel Messi in Al Nassr colours. Notably, Messi won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.
When the press conference happened, this is what Garcia’s first reactions were when Ronaldo was transferred to Al Nassr-
"First I wanted to bring Messi from Doha. I tried to bring Messi directly from Doha.".
“I can’t wait to discover a new football league in a different country,”
“The vision with which Al Nassr operates is very inspiring, and I am delighted to join my teammates, so that together we can help the team achieve greater success,”.
Ronaldo had recently ended his contract with Manchester United. He had issues with the manager Eric Ten Hag and also the top brass that made him terminate his contract.
Ronaldo crashed out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 for Portugal
“This is more than history in the making. This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves. Welcome @cristiano to your new home @alnassr_fc” tweeted the Saudi-based club.
He had not had the best of times at United where he was often sidelined and not given enough game time. The other shocking part was that the 37-year-old had to undergo more hardships during the FIFA World Cup 2022 when he was benched by his national side Portugal.
Ronaldo looked forward to a different environment with the Portugal team after his tumultuous period with United where he had a bumpy ride with the red devils. The Portugal great, however, did not have the best World Cup as he was benched on several occasions after he had scored goals in the initial stages.
