Jofra Archer is one of the most exciting bowlers to watch when at his full fitness. It was back in 2019 and 2020 that the express pace bowler was at his best. Since then, due to injuries, Archer has not been able to constantly play games for England. The 28-year-old has missed out on many high-profile tournaments like T20 World Cup 2021, T20 World Cup 2022, Ashes 2021/22, and Ashes 2023.

In his short career, Archer has already achieved a lot. The pacer was the key bowler in the English attack which won the 2019 ODI World Cup. In the Indian Premier League 2020, Archer was the Player of the Tournament. Yet, the right-arm quick bowler has not given his best performance in international cricket for a long time.

Lack of cricket due to injuries

Injuries have been hard on Archer, so much so that they have not allowed Archer to play for months. In 2019, Archer played 7 Test matches. In the following years in 2020 and 2021, Archer played 4 and 2 Test matches respectively. Since March 2021, the pacer has not played a single match in whites for England, which is quite a lot of time.

In One Day Internationals, Archer played 14 matches in 2019, including those in ODI World Cup. In 2020, Archer played 3 matches and did not play a match in the format for more than 26 months. In the T20Is, Archer played 12 matches till March 2021. He came back to the side only in March 2023. With not so many international matches under his belt, Archer would like to have a lot of match practice before the big tournament like the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The big tournament needs a completely fit Archer. The pacer recently got injured in IPL 2023 and is close to being completely fit again. If everything goes well, England can count on their express pace weapon to join the attack for the big tournament. It will be good for cricket to witness Archer bowl in the big tournament.
