Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni hasn't gotten many chances to show off his batting skills, so far, in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), but he still stole the show with his gloves and captaincy brilliance behind the stumps.

The same was evident in the encounter between CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday, when the former won convincingly by 7 wickets, thanks to their spinners' amazing spell and Dhoni's brilliance behind the stumps at their fortress, Chepauk Stadium.

In the 13th over of the first innings, Dhoni took a stunning catch to dismiss SRH skipper Aiden Markram off Mahesh Theekshana. An amazing delivery from the Sri Lankan spinner took the faint outside edge off Markram's bat and deflected just a little. The CSK skipper was alert on the field as usual and kept his gloves near the stumps to catch it. Everyone was stunned by his highly reactive grab, as they saw a youngster in the 41-year-old.

Still they didn't give me the best catch: Dhoni

The 2011 World Cup winning captain felt it was a fantastic catch and not too easy. Speaking to Harsha Bhogle in the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhoni said that he was in a wrong position to take that catch and compared it to a similar catch taken by the legendary Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid years ago.

"Still they didn't give me the best catch. I was in such a wrong position. Just because we wear gloves, people think it is very easy. I felt that was a fantastic watch not because of your ability but at times you are at wrong place at the wrong time and you catch it. One time, Rahul bhai was keeping and he caught something like that. With your skillset you cannot take a catch like that. You have to be at a very wrong position to take a catch like that."

Dhoni also said it needs more experience to pull off such catches. Dhoni's fitness at this age is incredible, prompting Bhogle to reply, "You're not old!" However, the wicket-keeper batter disagreed with a smile, saying:

"Other than that, once you get old, that's the only way you get experience unless you are Sachin Paaji who started playing at 16-17. I am definitely old, cannot shy away from that."
