Rajasthan Royals (RR) all-rounder Rian Parag recorded yet another failure in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as he managed to score just 15 runs off 12 balls while his team had every chance of chasing down the target of 155 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Even after getting a solid start from their openers, frequent wickets fell and a sluggish innings resulted in the Royals losing the thriller by 10 runs on Wednesday, April 19 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Parag came to the crease in the second ball of the 16th over when the team was at 104-3 and the required run-rate was above 10. With him and Devdutt Padikkal at the crease, a 29-ball 50 was a manageable target for the hosts. The Assam-based all-rounder remained unbeaten till the end of the innings, but he not only failed to lead his team to victory, but he also failed to play a meaningful knock.
Parag once again failed to make his worth count for RR
Parag had every opportunity to prove his worth to the franchise, but he delivered nothing but a poor performance. He hit his first boundary off nine balls, before which he had a strike rate less than 100. When Ravichandran Ashwin tried for a double in the final ball to reduce the loss margin, Parag made a slow run, resulting in a single. There was also criticism against skipper Sanju Samson for sending out-of-form Parag ahead of Dhruv Jurel.
In his five matches for RR this season, the 21-year-old has registered scores of 7, 20, 7, 5, and 15*. This is not the first season he has performed poorly in the IPL. The cricketer from Guwahati has been a part of the Jaipur-based franchise for quite a few years and has only played a few memorable innings for them. The RR management has come under fire several times from cricket pundits and their own fans for repeatedly picking Parag while denying others chances.
This time too the fans didn't leave Parag, brutally mocking him and even asking if he secretly owns his team.
Here's how fans reacted to Riyan Parag's innings against LSG:
