Mickey Arthur, Pakistan's new team director, believes skipper Babar Azam will go down in history as a legend of the game and believes Pakistan is capable of winning world cups and ranking first in all formats. Arthur, who signed a one-year contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday, believes Pakistan has the capacity to win World Cups and dominate the rest of the cricket world in the coming years across all formats.

Between 2016 and 2019, Arthur served as Pakistan's head coach. The South African, though, was unable to return to the post. Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi was overjoyed to have Arthur on board, even though the former head coach announced he would not be travelling with the team for all the series.

The former Pakistan coach will join Pakistan's coaching staff only for the Cricket World Cup in India this year, as well as the home series against the West Indies, the tour of Australia, and the Asia Cup.

Arthur revealed that he is emotionally tied to Pakistan cricket after the highs of his previous term, in which he guided the side to a Champions Trophy victory in 2017, and he backed Pakistan's skill in developing high-quality cricketers.

"They say Pakistan stays in your blood; it definitely stays in your blood. I always knew there was a time that I was very emotionally attached to this cricket team, very emotionally attached to this country. It's a privilege for me; in fact, to come back and help, hopefully, win a World Cup, get us to number one in the world in all formats of the game because we certainly have the talent, certainly the players," he said.

I knew he was going to become a key part of the team: Mickey Arthur on Babar Azam

Babar Azam has gone on to become one of the best modern-day players across all formats, according to Arthur. The former head coach recounted how Babar wowed him when he saw the right-hander bat in the nets.

"I knew he was going to become a key part of the team, I believe he is the number one batsman right now and he is a wonderful, wonderful talent. I still think he has room for improvement, I will keep challenging him. He is going to be a legend of the game," Arthur said.
