Olympic Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 with one massive throw in the World Championships men's javelin throw final. He took the berth with his fourth career-best performance of 88.77 meters in the mega event. It is pertinent to mention that the qualifying mark for the next Olympics is 85.50 meters, Chopra qualified with his season-best and first attempt in the event. 

For the event, the automatic qualification mark for the final round was set at 83 meters, although the 25-year-old has a personal best of 89.94 meters. In the World’s Athletic Championship Final, he left the competition arena without hitting any further throws. Whereas in the same group with Chopra, another Indian athlete, DP Manu, finished third with the best throw of 81.31 meters, he produced this throw in his second attempt. Now Manu will have to wait for the Group B qualification round, which will be held in short order, to find out whether he qualifies for the final. At the same time, Kishore Jena will also compete in Group B. 

As per the rules, the one who throws 83 meters or above will qualify for both Group A and B for the Final. Whereas in the event an individual gets the three attempts for qualifying for the next round. In the end, Germany’s Julian Weber had the second-best throw of 82.39 meters. Defending champion Anderson Peters of Grenada has struggled this season, as he finished seventh with his best throw of 78.49 meters. The 2015 World Championships gold medalist, Julius Yego, was eighth with his 78.42 meters. 

Neeraj Chopra awaits second Gold medal in France Olympics 2024 

Indian talisman Chopra's performance in the qualifying round of the World Championships was a reminder of his performance in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where he hit the 87.58-meter throw in the final event to become the second Indian to win the individual Gold medal. The 2024 Olympics are set to kick off on July 26, 2024, in Paris. It will be the first Olympics game in France since the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville.
