India went head-to-head against Zimbabwe in their final match of the Super 12 stage on Sunday. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. After a slow start to the innings, the ‘Men-in-Blue’ managed to put on 186/5 in their allotted 20 overs. The star of the show was once again Suryakumar Yadav who lit up the MCG with his breathtaking strokeplay.

SKY walked in to bat with the score on 87/2 after 11.5 overs. The star batter took some time to get in early on scoring his first five runs in six balls. However, he hit back-to-back fours in the 16th over bowled by Blessing Muzarabani to get his innings going. After getting into the groove, SKY played one majestic stroke after the other as he unleashed his wrath on Zimbabwe bowlers. The crowd was left awestruck by his versatile strokes which saw him hit boundaries all around the ground.

In the 16th over, he played a ramp shot to send a delivery by Richard Ngarva for a maximum over deep backward square leg. He then played an exquisite lofted cover drive on a pitched-up delivery in the next over to launch the ball into the crowd. Sunil Gavaskar in the commentary box was left awestruck as SKY plundered Zimbabwe bowlers with a wide variety of strokes from his repertoire.

The no 1 T20I batter brought up his half-century in the final over of the innings off just 23 balls as he scooped, swept, drove and cut bringing the MCG crowd to their feet. Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 61 off 25 balls smashing six fours and four sixes in his innings taking India to a massive total.

During the course of his innings, he also reached the landmark of 1000 runs in T20I in 2022 and became the first Indian batter to achieve this feat. The star batter has 1026 runs to his name this year at an average of 44.60 and an unbelievable strike rate of 186.54. He also has nine fifties and one century to his name this year. SKY’s stellar performances have seen him rise to the no 1 spot(863 rating points) in the T20I batters’ rankings leaving Mohammad Rizwan behind.

Twitter was abuzz with memes as SKY owned the MCG crowd with his scintillating innings. Here are some of the best memes:
