Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has given his picks for the top five Test cricketers in the world at the moment. Be it any format of the game, choosing the best players is not an easy task. Harbhajan's selection was based on the recently concluded World Test Championship cycle, where India lost to Australia in the final, and the ongoing third edition of the WTC, which began with the 2023 Ashes.

The debate over the best cricketers in red-ball cricket has now become more intense with Australia being crowned as World Champions and winning the first two Ashes Tests. Since the end of the WTC final, the Test batting rankings have changed dramatically, but the bowling and all-rounder rankings have remained quite stable. The Australians were in the top 3 batting rankings after the Oval win, but that all changed when after the first Ashes Test.

The England-Australia rivalry in the oldest Test cricket tournament has been fueled by some controversial events. Pat Cummins and Co took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series after a 43-run win at Lord's on Sunday. They will now travel to Headingley for a crucial third match for England if they are to stay alive in the series.

Who are Harbhajan's top five cricketers in Test cricket at present?

After the conclusion of the second Test, veteran sports journalist and commentator Ayaz Memon asked the cricket fraternity on Twitter to pick their best Test cricketers. He specifically mentioned that the selection should not be based only on talent or ranking, but also on game-changers, match-winning performances and those who stand out on big occasions.

“Who are the 5 best Test cricketers in the world today? Not just in terms of skill, but game-changers, matchwinners, players most likely to come good on the ‘Big Occasion’. I’ll pitch 2 names: Ben Stokes. Pat Cummins. (surely No dispute here surely!). Pick 3 others," Memon tweeted.

The fans were quick to share their names, and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh joined the 'game' as well. Harbhajan named Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Ben Stokes as his top red-ball cricketers at present. However, India's veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's name is missing from the list, leaving many fans unimpressed with the 43-year-old's selections.
