Manchester City striker Erling Haaland scored five goals to lead his team to an emphatic 7-0 win over RB Leipzig in the last-16 second leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday. City booked their berth in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League with an 8-1 aggregate win. With his stunning performance, Haaland became only the third player in Champions League history to score five goals in a game.

Records were smashed in front of the Norway international who became Manchester City's top goalscorer in a season, taking his tally to 39. The Norwegian became the fastest and youngest player to reach 30 Champions League goals after hitting that mark in 25 games and in 22 years and 236 days old and surpassing PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, who was 22 years and 352 days old when he scored his 30th goal in the competition.

Speaking after his splendid performance, Haaland said: "It's a big night. Firstly, I'm proud to play in this competition, I love it. Five goals. To win 7-0 is amazing. I’m blurry in my head. I remember shooting but not thinking,” he said.

"My super strength is scoring goals. Should I be honest? A lot of goals today, I didn't think. I was just trying to get it into the back of the net," he added. "A lot of it is being quick in the mind and trying to put it where the goalkeeper is not."

I wanted to score a double hat-trick, says the Norway striker

Haaland gave Pep Guardiola's men their first lead in the 22nd minute and in another two minutes, he scored his second. He scored his hat-trick just before half-time to make it a 3-0 lead. He was unstoppable at the Etihad Stadium as he completed his quota of 5 goals, firing into the net in the 54th and 57th minutes.

Haaland was substituted in the 63rd minute, six minutes after scoring his fifth goal. "I told (Guardiola) I would love to score a double hat-trick but what can I do?" he said.

In a devastating performance, City equalled their biggest European win after captain Ilkay Gundogay and Kevin De Bruyne also netted in the extra minute.

"Fabulous," manager of City said on Haaland's performance. "He has a huge competitor mentality, he's there and yeah, scored five goals which is not easy," Guardiola added.

Here's how Twitter responded to Haaland's display:
