After defeating Pakistan in an epic encounter on October 27, Thursday in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022, the Craig Ervine-led Zimbabwe Team locked horns with Bangladesh on Sunday and it turned out to be a close encounter yet again.
With regard to the toss, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to field first. However, the Zimbabwean bowlers were breathing fire as they removed Soumya Sarka for a duck and Litton Das for 10 runs. However, Najmul Hossain Shanto lifted the team from the hiccup and almost stayed till the end to put on 150 runs on the board. Shanto, who tried his best to push the total further, perished in the 17th over after scoring 71 runs.
The drama unfolds yet again during Zimbabwe match
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, struggled to get off to a good start and started losing wickets in quick succession. The opener Wesley Madhevere made his way back to the pavilion for just 4 runs while skipper Craig Ervine contributed only 8.
Sikandar Raza, the man of the moment, returned for a duck while Milton Shumba contributed as many runs as the captain. However, Sean Williams, who came in at Number 4, kept Zimbabwe in the race and started coming up with boundaries at frequent intervals. Despite his great-hearted 64, Ervine’s men fell short of the target by 4 runs. However, the final over turned out to be the over of the match as a forced error from Nurul Hasan made it a no-ball and the players were recalled to complete the over.
With 4 runs required off the last ball, Blessing Muzarabani, who faced the delivery off Mosaddek Hossain, missed it, letting Shakib and his men take the win home. Although Zimbabwe lost the match, fans who witnessed the spectacle, were in awe of the effort and lauded the team for the same.
As it stands, with the win, Bangladesh made it to second place in the rankings with 4 points below India. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, would look to bounce back in the remaining games and try their best to make it to the knockouts, although, it looks bleak as of now.
