India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik had a wonderful Indian T20 League season in 2022 for the Bangalore side. He finished games for them from tough situations and also proved his worth with the bat by scoring 330 runs at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 183.33. This gave Karthik a recall to the national side.
He played for India side in the T20 World Cup in Australia, but he had a campaign to forget as in the four matches that he batted, he scored just 14 runs at an average of 4.66 and an underwhelming strike rate of 63.63. He did not deliver the goods in a big tournament and Rishabh Pant was given the chance against Zimbabwe and in the semi-final against England.
In a recent post uploaded by Dinesh Karthik on Instagram, Karthik put out a long caption which talked about his dream of playing in the 20-20 World Cup.

“Worked hard towards the goal of playing the T20 World Cup for India and it was such a proud feeling to do so... we did fall short of the ultimate motive, but it did fill my life with many memories to cherish. Thank you to all my fellow players, coaches, friends and most importantly the fans for the undying support,” said Karthik in a heartfelt message.
Dinesh Karthik did not play in the New Zealand series
The selectors gave out the message to the wicketkeeper-batter that he would not be considered for selection going forward. He was not part of the side which played against New Zealand.
“The World Cup is going to finish in some days and so we need to decide whom to rest or not. He (Karthik) has been performing and he is available to us. But this time we just thought of trying a different set of players after the World Cup,” This is what the previous chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma said.
He recently did a commentary stint in England for Sky Sports. That message could indicate that he has decided to retire from cricket after a long and distinguished career for India. Once he calls it quits, it is likely that he will take up commentary.
