Mumbai-based young batter Sarfaraz Khan has impressed everyone with his stellar performances in the Ranji Trophy 2022. Sarfaraz has played the commendable knocks of 165, 63, 48, and 275 in the last 3 matches of Ranji Trophy’s 2022 season.
His amazing inning of 153 led Mumbai to a win in the quarterfinal against Uttarakhand in the knockout round of the Ranji Trophy. Notably, he smashed 928 runs in the previous edition of the Ranji Trophy with an excellent average of 80.42.
Recently, the former Chief selector of India and 1983 world-champion player. Dilip Vengsarkar opined that Khan should be a part of India’s National Team.
He should have been playing for India at the moment - Vengsarkar
"He should have been playing for India at the moment. He has scored tons of runs every time (in Ranji Trophy). And if the selectors are still not convinced, then I am really surprised, what else can he do to get into the Indian squad? Every year, he has scored more than 800 runs for Mumbai," Vengsarkar was quoted as saying to Khaleej Times.
Former Mumbai stalwart termed him as a 'fit cricketer' and lauded Khan’s knack for converting his good starts into the big knocks.
"I have seen him since he was 12. He is a street-smart cricketer. He is always hungry for success. He is very fit and the most important thing is that he can play long innings," He added later.
Vengsarkar also talked about the importance of Sarfaraz in the middle-order of the Indian batting line as he can adapt his batting as per the requirements of the team and according to the situation as well.
"He is an improviser. And you need somebody to accelerate the scoring rate. A batsman like him helps the team because he keeps the scoreboard moving all the time," Vengsarkar concluded.
