Afghanistan will be playing their second World Cup
The ODI World Cup 2023 is set to take place from October 5 to November 19. It will be featuring ten teams, including Afghanistan. Making their World Cup debut in 2015, Afghanistan also qualified for the 2019 edition. In 2015, they won just one of their six group-stage matches. Despite not securing any wins in the 2019 tournament, Afghanistan earned praise for their resilient performances. They're great in all nine league matches. Since then, Afghanistan has shown improvement and is now a formidable team. They are capable of defeating any opponent on a given day.
In this edition of the World Cup, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side will be kickstarting their campaign against the Bangladesh team. They will be playing at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on October 7. In addition to this, the Afghanistan team will be up against the two-time World Champions and also the host India. They will be playing at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 12. It will be interesting to see how the Afghanistan team performs in this World Cup after having a poor outing in the recently concluded Asia Cup. In the Asia Cup 2023, the Afghanistan side were knocked out in the league stage.
