India’s pace bowling sensation Umran Malik has been catching everyone’s attention with his fiery speed and the ability to instil fear in the batters with his thunderbolts. Whenever he bowls, everyone’s focus goes to the pace at which he bowls, and understandably so, since he clocks around the 150 kmph mark time and again.

This has also drawn a comparison with Pakistan’s speedster, Haris Rauf. Umran, by many, is tipped to equal or even surpass Shoaib Akhtar’s record for the fastest delivery. However, the former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed is not a fan of these comparisons. He feels that Umran is not as trained as Rauf. He also said that the difference between these two bowlers is similar to that of Virat Kohli with the rest of the batters.

“Umran Malik is not as trained and fit as Haris Rauf,” said Javed who was quoted as saying in Hindustan Times. “If you look at him in ODIs, in his first spell he bowls around 150 kmph but by the 7th or 8th over the speed drops to 138 kmph. The difference is the same as it is between Kohli and the rest of the batters.”

No one has a clear lifestyle like Rauf: Aaqib Javed

“He (Rauf) is very disciplined with his diet, training and his lifestyle. I have not seen a single Pakistan bowler who has a diet like Haris. No one has a clear lifestyle like him. Bowling 160 kmph is not a big deal for me, but bowling at the same speed throughout the match is very crucial,” said the 50-year-old.

Rauf’s fastest delivery so far came in last year’s 20-20 World Cup against England when he clocked 159 kmph. The Indian pacer, on the other hand, bowled his quickest ball of 157 kmph in the Indian T20 League 2022. His fastest in the international circuit is 156 kmph. Umran, after a breakout Indian T20 League season in 2022, forced his way into the national team and got his India debut on June 26, 2022. He has played seven ODIs and six T20Is ever since.
