Colombo Strikers, the new addition to the Lanka Premier League 2023, have registered their first-ever victory in the history of the tournament. The Colombo-based team defeated B-Love Kandy by 27 runs and celebrated their first win in the league. The collective bowling effort of the Strikers with some useful contributions in batting won them the match.

On a slow batting track in Colombo, the Colombo Strikers’ captain Niroshan Dickwella won the toss and elected to bat first. The ball did not come well to the bat, thanks to a dry surface. As a result, the batters struggled to score runs at a brisk rate. Since scoring was not easy, there was a need for someone to bat deep and take the team to a good total.

The experienced batter Babar Azam did the job for Colombo Strikers. As the wickets were falling from the other end, the 28-year-old rotated the strike well and kept the scoreboard ticking. With some extras from the bowlers and cameos of Mohammad Nawaz, Chamika Karunaratne, and Ramesh Mendis, the Strikers scored 157 runs in their 20 overs.

Babar Azam scored 59 runs in 52 balls and was criticized for a slow knock. But as the match progressed, even the batters of Kandy struggled to score runs. The bowling of the Strikers was accurate, which did not allow the batters of Kandy to settle in the middle. As a result, the Strikers won the match easily by 27 runs. Babar Azam was awarded the Player of the Match for his mature knock on a difficult wicket.

The captain of Colombo Strikers, Niroshan Dickwella, praised the knock of Babar Azam which came on a tricky pitch. In the dressing room speech, Dickwella appreciated the knock of Babar and asked the youngsters to learn from it. The Strikers’ captain said “Learn from the best. He did not give up. It was not easy to bat on that wicket. He was there till the end. That innings took us to a good score” and praised the knock of Azam.
