The Delhi Franchise becomes the first team to qualify for the finals of the first-ever Women’s T20 League after defeating UP by 5 wickets in the last league match of the season. Delhi will now take on the winner of the eliminator for the title clash on March 26th.

UP batted first at the Brabourne Stadium and posted 138 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Skipper Alyssa Healy got out after scoring 36 off 34 balls hitting four fours and a maximum. While Tahila McGrath remained unbeaten on 58 runs from 32 balls including eight fours and two sixes. However, none of the other batters could provide a useful contribution as UP were restricted below 140. Alice Capsey scalped 3 wickets for Delhi. Radha Yadav took 2 wickets, while Jess Jonassen scalped 1 wicket.

Delhi had a pretty good start while chasing the winning total as the skipper Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma added 56 runs for the first wicket inside five overs. Lanning got out after scoring 39 runs off 23 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes, while Shafali scored 21 off 16 with four boundaries. Shabnim Ismail brought UP back to the game by picking up two wickets in the seventh over.

However UP couldn’t celebrate for long as Marizanne Kapp and Alice Kapsey added 60 runs for the fourth wicket to take Delhi closer to the finishing line. Kapsey got out after scoring 34 runs off 31 balls, while Kapp remained unbeaten with the same digits as Kapp as Delhi scored 142 runs for the loss of 5 five wickets, winning the game with 13 balls to spare. Ismail scalped two wickets for UP. While Soppadhandi Yashasri and Sophie Ecclestone shared a wicket each.

With this win, Delhi finished the league stage standing at the top of the points table which means that they are directly qualified for the finals. Meanwhile, Mumbai and UP will face each other in the eliminator on March 24th to book their spot for the final against Delhi.
