Indian women’s cricket team are proving their worth with every passing game. Not many people would believe that the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team have sealed a series in England after 23 years. An incident from the third match, however, has sparked a controversy as Deepti Sharma clinched the win with a run-out at the non-striker’s end.

Speaking of the match, the top 4 from India put on a poor batting show as Shafali Varma, Yastika Bhatia and Harleen Deol returned with cheap scores. Harmanpreet Kaur had an off day yesterday as she returned for four runs after carrying the Indian women’s cricket team in the first two games.

However, Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma held the team together as the two bagged well-crafted half-centuries to their name. Indian women’s cricket team ended up aggregating 169 runs in 45.4 overs but were staring at a humiliating defeat. However, the English team led by Amy Jones crumbled and bottled the game in the end.

Indian women’s cricket team emerge from the ashes

Harmanpreet Kaur-led team looked like they might lose the match and face a defeat. However, the English batters started crumbling right from the start. Within sixteen overs, the team lost half of the team and looked unsteady at the crease.

Renuka Singh Thakur, India’s new star, lifted the team with a four-for. However, Deepti Sharma clinched the match with a run-out at the non-striker’s end. This sparked a controversy and left the fans divided on the same. While a few claimed that the Cricket’s governing body has made it legal, a many said that it was not at par with sportsmanship spirits.

Many former cricketers including Stuart Broad slammed Deepti Sharma for going against sportsmanship spirit. However, veteran Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin backed the star and said that it was well within the rules of the game. All said and done, the Indian women's cricket team won the series 0-3 and made the entire country proud.
