Deepak Chahar has been the talk of the town since he was recalled for the Zimbabwe tour. And the 30-year-old right-arm pacer will be the stand-by player for the Asia Cup 2022. Many fans have come up with the opinion that the star bowler must have been a part of the main squad. The Uttar Pradesh-based bowler was all set to play for the Chennai team until a hamstring injury ruled him out.
And now a member of the selection committee has said IndieSport that the bowler might as well make it to the main squad. He said that if Chahar does well in the Zimbabwe tour, they will give thought to bringing him to the main squad. It has been reported that the bowler has not recovered fully and had to perform well in the Zimbabwe tour.
"If Deepak Chahar does well and gets his rhythm back, we will give it a thought,” - the member of the selection committee
“Obviously, you can’t straight away select him for Asia Cup when he is making his return from injury. We have an option to change a player before the tournament. Deepak will have his chance in Zimbabwe. If he does well and gets his rhythm back, we will give it a thought,” the member said.
Deepak Chahar will make a comeback to the ODI squad after a long break. The bowler has not been a part of the international setup since February. The powerplay star told News 24 that he wants to give his 110% whenever he steps onto the field. Chahar added that he would not be satisfied with giving 99%.
“If I wanted, I could have made a comeback 2-3 weeks ago only. I could have played the T20 series against West Indies. But then, my thought process was that whenever you play, you give your 110 percent. Don’t even play at 99 percent. I believe I should be able to perform better than the time before I got injured,” Chahar told. The selectors have given an opportunity to the pace bowler. And it will be interesting to see Chahar's approach on the Zimbabwe tour.
