Deepak Chahar reveals MS Dhoni advised him to propose to wife Jaya before IPL 2021 playoffs

"One of the best moments of my life", Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar captioned a video of him proposing to his long-time girlfriend Jaya Bhardwaj during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. After nearly two years, the star bowler has recounted the incident involving CSK captain MS Dhoni.

During a chat with Gaurav Kapoor on the latest episode of Breakfast with Champions, Chahar revealed that he had planned to propose Jaya after the IPL 2021 final, but Dhoni advised him to get over it before the playoffs to stay focused on the game.

“I wanted to propose her after the Final, but MS Dhoni told me to do it before the Qualifiers so I can maintain my focus on the matches”, Chahar said.

The 30-year-old cricketer got down on one knee to propose to her in the stands after CSK's match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Dubai International Stadium in October 2021. Surprised by Chahar's gesture, Jaya immediately replied yes, and they exchanged rings before giving each other a bear embrace in the stands. The two got married in June 2022 in Agra.

Can CSK triumph over GT in the IPL 2023 final?

Dhoni's advice paid off as Chahar was crucial to CSK's victory that year, when they won their fourth championship in the cash-rich league. The Chennai-based franchise finished second in IPL 2020 but bounced back in style the following year, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final.

The stage is now set for Dhoni and Co to lift their fifth title when the Yellow Brigade takes against the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the grand finale of IPL 2023 on Sunday, May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. GT advanced to the final after a thumping win over MI in Qualifier 2 and will be eyeing for there second successive IPL success. CSK, on the other hand, have recorded 10 finals in 14 seasons of the league - the most of any team - and will be eager to continue their dominance in the battle at the summit.
