Ahead of Gujarat's last league game of Women's T20 League 2023, Deandra Dottin has spoken about her exclusion from the team. Early in the season, she was replaced by Australia's Kim Garth. The Ahmedabad-based side had said that Dottin is injured which is why she has been replaced. However, the 2016 20-20 World Cup winner claimed that she was cleared to play by a medical panel.
Following this, the franchise issued a statement claiming that the right-hander failed to procure her medical report before the deadline. The franchise added that they are looking forward to seeing her return on the field. Meanwhile, the team will play its final league game of the season against UP on March 20. This is a must-win game for the Orange Army.
“Deandra is a world-class player and a wonderful signing for the franchise. Unfortunately, we were unable to obtain a medical clearance before the defined deadline for this season, such clearances are a requirement of all players participating in the WTL.
“We look forward to seeing her return to the field soon. Subject to the clearance of her medical report, she will be part of the Gujarat squad in the upcoming seasons,” concluded the statement.

I remain deeply disappointed because of my exclusion: Deandra Dottin
Ahead of Gujarat's must-win game, Dottin issued a long statement on Twitter. She expressed her disappointment and claimed that she recommended her personal training and fitness regime for the tournament. For the unversed, she sustained abdominal pain last December. She was advised to rest till February 26.
"I remain deeply disappointed by what can only, plausibly, be described as bewildering reasoning for my omission from the tournament," Dottin wrote on Twitter.
"Consequently, I recommenced my personal training and fitness regime according to the guided timelines and experienced some soreness on the first day of resumed training which was anticipated and reasonable, given that I had been asked to rest in the weeks preceding training.
In light of ongoing speculation surrounding my exclusion from this year's Women's Premier League (WPL), please find attached, a brief statement from me that addresses and clarifies the events that led to my omission from the inaugural WPL tournament earlier this month. pic.twitter.com/SmiSnkMlrZ
