Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper David Warner is the latest in the list of captains fined for maintaining a slow over rate in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The Australian international was fined Rs 12 lakh for the offence committed during their encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, April 24.

However, the penalty won't be a headache for Warner as his side cruised to an incredible 7-run win against SRH at their home venue. The DC captain was screaming at the top of his lungs as his team won their second game in a row after losing the first five matches of this IPL season.

"Delhi Capitals captain David Warner has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Warner was fined Rs. 12 lakh," IPL said in a release.

The 36-year-old will face double the current fine if he fails to maintain the over-rate in any of the upcoming matches this season. Earlier, Royals Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli also was fined for the same reason. Kohli has already broken the law twice and will face a one-match ban if he offends once again in the 2023 season.

Axar's all-round brilliance, Mukesh's final over composure gave DC a crucial win

Coming back to the DC vs SRH clash, the visitors managed to win despite putting only 144 on the board after batting first. Axar Patel was the star of the night, excelling with both bat and bowl. All of DC's top order batters struggled against SRH's bowling attack, and it was Axar and Manish Pandey's 34 runs that pushed them to a decent total.

Defending a low total was going to be challenging, but the DC bowlers were not about to give up and restricted their opponent to 137-6 in 20 overs. Axar finished with figures of 2-21, while Anrich Nortje conceded 33 runs and took two wickets. When 13 runs were needed off the final six balls, DC's impact player Mukesh Kumar held his nerve and led his team to victory.
