Sachin Tendulkar and Shoaib Akhtar have had some great battles over the years and in the time between the 90s and 2000s when the India-Pakistan rivalry was at its peak. Akhtar has said that he has cherished many battles with the Indian batters over the years. The encounters between the two sides were happening at a quick pace and also were very mouth-watering.

Akhtar, in an interaction with the Sports Rush, revealed that Pakistan chalked up a plan to bowl short against Sourav Ganguly and the move paid dividends. He said that Ganguly showed a lot of grit and was the bravest batter that he had bowled to. The Rawalpindi express also caused a lot of damage to Tendulkar’s ribs with a short delivery.

It was a serious blow- Sachin Tendulkar on the impact of the injury

The rib injury happened against Pakistan in 2007. The master blaster was gravely injured because of that delivery, and he was struggling to breathe and could not talk. He talked at length about the episode in an event at Infosys last year. Sachin shouted at Ganguly to keep him quiet and also hilariously addressed him as “Dr”. He said that Ganguly was wondering what would happen if Tendulkar left the field.

“Dr. Ganguly was at the non-strikers’ end! He heard it obviously. I told Ganguly chup! . And I am not leaving this place, don’t worry. It was a serious blow; like someone punching you at 95 km per hour,” Sachin Tendulkar said in an Infosys event.“Dada was I think the captain and was worried that I would go to the dressing room. So, I told him don’t worry, I am going to continue batting.”

The little master knew the consequences of the injury when he got hit on the first impact but he did not want to cough or give any indication to the bowler that he was in pain or any kind of discomfort. Tendulkar has battled many injuries in his long cricket career. He also had a threatening tennis elbow injury that he fought through and came back with flying colours.
