Former legendary Indian captain and the former president of the Indian Cricket Board, Sourav Ganguly will now get 'Z category' security protection, according to some senior officials. The choice was made on Tuesday after Ganguly's Y category security contract came to an end.

"As the security cover of the VVIP expired, a review was done as per the protocol, and it was decided to raise Ganguly's security cordon to the Z category." the official was quoted as saying by SportsTiger.

The former cricketer will be protected by 8 to 10 police officers under the new security plan, the spokesman added. Ganguly used to have an equal number of law enforcement officers guarding his Behala home and three Special Branch police officers in his cordon as part of the 'Y category' security cover.

The source stated that on Tuesday, officials of the state administration met with authorities from the nearby police station and the Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar at Ganguly's Behala office.

"Ganguly is currently traveling with his team Delhi Daredevils and will return to Kolkata on May 21. He will start getting Z category security from that very day."

Will DC ruin the game for PBKS?

Ganguly is, currently, with Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League 2023 as a ‘Director of Cricket’. DC will be facing Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 64th match of the tournament at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Wednesday, May 17.

The David Warner-led team, who are playing without their regular skipper Rishabh Pant, are already out of the tournament as they sitting at the bottom of the points table with only 8 points in 12 matches. It won’t be wrong to say that this is DC’s by far the worst performance in IPL history, however, they might ruin the game for two teams and those will be PBKS and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as DC have nothing to lose and they will give their 100% in order to avoid finishing at the bottom.
