India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series against each other since 2012. Pakistan had come to tour India then for a three match ODI series and a two match T20I series. The T20I series was squared 1-1 but Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1. In recent times, Pakistan and India play each other only in world events and in Asia Cups. That has been the fate of Indo-Pak Cricket.

In the same regard, Pakistani journalist, Farid Khan made an emotional appeal to Jay Shah, the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, and pleaded to let Pakistan be the hosts. He also talked about not letting India and Pakistan cricket fade away. There was also reports of India playing Test matches against Pakistan but all that has gone out of the window.

Here is the video:

Pakistan were set to host the Asia Cup in 2023. But with the present situation involving Imran Khan and civil unrest happening, the other boards including, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, have deemed it unsafe to play the tournament there.

The 2022 edition of the Asia Cup was held in UAE

The last edition of the Asia Cup was held in 2022 at the United Arab Emirates in the T20 format, ahead of the 2022 20-20 World Cup. If the tournament happens in 2023, then it will be held in the ODI format. The 2023 ODI World Cup will be held in India. India and Pakistan were at loggerheads over the Asia Cup being held in Pakistan.

India had categorically stated that it would not travel to Pakistan unless it attains the necessary government clearances and Pakistan had also proposed the hybrid model. This is where India's games would be held at a neutral venue while the rest of the tournament would be played in Pakistan. The boards at the Asian Cricket Council could not agree on a neutral venue to host the tournament.

There were some reports that came in recently saying that Sri Lanka would host the Asia Cup 2023 instead of Pakistan. Dambula and Kandy were also shortlisted as the venues were the tournament would be held if Sri Lanka ends up hosting it.
