The ace South African cricketer Faf du Plessis is doing magic at the age of 38, demonstrating his remarkable consistency with the bat in the ongoing Indian Premier League. He came out as an impact player for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Match 32 of IPL 2023 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and smashed his 5th half-century of the season, helping the team post a respectable total on the board.

Even youngsters struggle to find consistent form, but du Plessis appears to be in peak form even at this age. Having completed 400 runs this season, the right-handed batter currently holds the 'Orange Cap' for the tournament's leading run scorers. The RCB skipper has led his side's batting unit from the front with five half-centuries in seven innings so far this season.

Due to a rib injury, du Plessis played as an impact player in today's and previous game, with Virat Kohli taking over as captain. Last game against CSK, the Proteas hitter also scored a rapid half-century, and many questioned whether he was truly injured, whereas some praised the veteran batter for his incredible fitness. He continued his sublime form against RR and once again formed a brilliant partnership with Glenn Maxwell.

Du Plessis-Maxwell 100+ partnership takes RCB to a respectable total

The Royals won the toss and elected to bat first at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Their star bowler Trent Boult gave his team a dream start by dismissing the in-form Virat Kohli in the very first ball of the innings. Shahbaz Ahmed was promoted to no. 2 but the left-hander was sent back for 2 runs by Boult in the 3rd over.

However, after that Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell steadied the ship for the hosts and put on a 120+ partnership to bring them back into the game. The team reached a total of 139 before du Plessis was dismissed in 13.2 overs. Glenn Maxwell added a few more runs despite losing his partner, but the Aussie gun could not hold on for long as Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him in the 15th over.

The wicket of Maxi changed everything and RR gained upper hand from there. A terrific comeback by Royals as when it looked like RCB would score more than 200 at one point, but the visitors conceded just 30 runs off the last five overs to restrict the opponent to 189-9.
