Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians faced off in a must-win Qualifier 2 game of the Indian Premier League 2023. A win for either take them to the finals, while a loss meant the elimination. Both innings saw lots of runs scored, with Shubman Gill leading the charge with his third century of the season to help his team win.

In the match between MI and GT, Rohit Sharma, the captain of MI, won the toss and invited GT to bat first. GT's opening batsmen, Gill and Wriddhiman Saha, got off to a fantastic start by adding 54 runs for the initial partnership in 6.2 overs. Saha's innings concluded after he scored 18 runs off 16 balls, including three boundaries.

However, Gill and Sai Sudharsan formed a remarkable alliance, contributing 148 runs for the second wicket. Gill displayed dominance during the middle overs, aggressively attacking bowlers such as Akash Madhwal, Chirs Jordan, and Piyush Chawla. Surprisingly, Madhwal, who had been the hero for MI in the previous game with his exceptional performance of taking 5 wickets for just 5 runs, ended up conceding 52 runs in his four overs against GT.

Gill got his century on the first delivery of the 15th over, displaying an impressive feat by reaching the milestone in just 49 deliveries. However, his innings came to an end on the fifth ball of the 17th over, having smashed 129 runs from only 60 balls, including seven fours and 10 sixes. Thanks to Gill's remarkable century, GT managed to amass a massive total of 233 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

MI falter in the chase

Along with Rohit Sharma, Nehal Wadher opened the innings in place of the injured Ishan Kishan. However, both of them failed to perform as they lost their wicket to Mohammad Shami. After that, the middle order did the heavy lifting for the MI.

Cameron Green (30) and Tilak Verma (43 runs in 14 balls) played important cameos, while Suryakumar Yadav (61 runs in 38 balls) scored a half-century to keep their hopes alive. The Titans' bowlers bounced back as they struck wickets at regular intervals.

In the end, the bowlers proved too good for the five-time champions as they restricted them to a score of 171/9 to take a 62-run win. Gujarat Titans have qualified for the finals and will face Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
