There have been a lot of cricketing nations who have risen through the ranks and have beaten the odds, they might not have won major trophies, but they have surely won a lot of hearts. Bangladesh were that kind of side, who were known to be the dark horses of international cricket, who have beaten some top teams in major cricket tournaments. The side is well known for beating a strong Indian side in the 2007 World Cup and knocking England out of the 2015 World Cup. They might have not won many tournaments, but they have given us some exciting players, who are performing well in international and franchise cricket. There have been a lot of talented players who have come up in the Bangladesh cricketing nation like Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Mortaza and Mahmudullah, but the man who is considered one of the greats of the Bangla Tigers is none other than Shakib Al Hasan.

The great all-rounder is not only one of the highest run scorers for his team in international cricket with over 14000 runs but also the highest wicket-taker with 690 wickets as well. He is one of the highest wicket-takers in T20’s overall with over 400 wickets and has scored over 6000 runs as well. He has also been one of the most successful Bangladesh skippers as well. Consistency and performance-wise Shakib was the full package, where he could score big runs and take wickets regularly. The only thing that has been a problem with the legendary all-rounder is his disciplinary issues, which do not create a great image of a player as talented and experienced as him.

Shakib Al Hasan recently has entered the political sphere as well as a member-elect for the parliament in the constituency of Magura-1. He might have won the election and assumed office, but the viral clip of him slapping a fan before the results has yet again ruined his credibility among fans. This is perhaps another ugly moment for someone who is known to be one of the greatest sportsmen in the country. The problem is that this isn’t the first time the 36-year-old has got himself in this situation as well, with a lot of disciplinary issues brought up by people against him in the past as well.

The man who has been a part of a lot of memorable matches for his nation and has achieved a lot in franchise cricket as well as being a part of two Indian Premier League(IPL) title-winning sides for Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) in 2012 and 2014. This is another black mark that will not go unnoticed in his record and will not create a great image in the future in his decorated sports career or political career.
