Suryakumar Yadav has been named the captain of the T20I men’s team of the year. There are four Indians on the list, including Ravi Bishnoi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Arshdeep Singh. Given that major players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and others haven't played in the format since the T20 World Cup ended last year, they weren't included in the list.

Jaiswal debuted for India last year. He played against the West Indies in August and scored 430 runs at a strike rate of 159 in 14 knocks in 2023. Along with him, England’s Phil Salt also reserved a place in the team. He scored 170 runs more than the next highest-scoring hitter in the five-match T20I series with 331 runs.

Nicholas Pooran, a West Indies wicketkeeper hitter, Mark Chapman of New Zealand, and all-rounder Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe are also selected. Alpesh Ramjani of Uganda and Mark Adair of Ireland were perhaps the two players that few people anticipated being on the squad.

Suryakumar Yadav’s groin surgery successful

Suryakumar Yadav suffered an ankle injury during the India tour of South Africa last year, which led to a successful groin surgery. The current T20I series between Afghanistan and India, which lasted three games, did not include Suryakumar Yadav. Along with him, Ishan Kisan also missed the series.

Moreover, after undergoing rehabilitation, he is probably going to make a comeback to the Indian Premier League shortly. The Men in Blue's middle-order hitter is anticipated to be crucial to the team's success at the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in June in the USA and the West Indies. The presence of Surya adds extra experience to the middle order which might benefit the team in the World Cup.
