The Delhi Capitals are considered one of the underachieving teams in the Indian Premier League(IPL). The franchise has not been able to win a single title in the last 16 editions they have played. The Capitals have made it to just one final in 2020 which they lost to the Mumbai Indians. The last season was also one of the most disappointing seasons for the Delhi franchise, further extending their trophy drought in the league.
The Delhi capitals will want to make a big comeback into this new season. They still have some talented players on their side, especially after the comeback of Rishabh Pant as captain. The Capitals will start their season playing the other underachievers in Punjab Kings in Mohali. It is important for this side to finally get going and set their goals in the league. Ricky Ponting and the coaching staff will want his team at their best going into the tournament.
Jhye Richardson to miss first phase
Yet another roadblock for the capitals has come ahead of the season and the Australian pacer Jhye Richardson will be missing the initial phase due to an injury he caught during the Big Bash League(BBL). Richardson was supposed to be one of their overseas pacers who would fit into the side well. Even though he has only been part of just 3 IPL games, he has been in form throughout the season and has taken 94 wickets in his 70 BBL matches.
This is a major setback for the Capitals who had also put a lot of money into the Aussie pacer buying him at 5cr in the auction. The overseas pacer department is where the Capitals had struggled the most and the loss of a player like Richardson will cost them dearly. The Delhi Capitals will have to find a way to deal with this going into the Test match. There are a lot of people on the sidelines whom they will have to choose from to get the better of every team in the league.
