The veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami impressed everyone with his stunning comeback on the field as he claimed an amazing five-wicket haul against New Zealand. Notably, it was also Shami’s last appearance for India in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. He scalped a total of 5 wickets at the cost of 54 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

Shami also won the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-defining performance in India’s favour during the first innings. Apart from his brilliant action on the field, Shami also attracted the media headlines for his hilarious and interesting replies to the journalists during the post-match press conference.

“You stick to seam bowling, or what you thought that you should go ahead with what you know?” asked a journalist at the start of the press conference.

The journalist further added, “Apne 5 wickets par kuch bataiye (talk about your 5 wickets).”

“Uske baare mein puch lo aap,” added Shami with a poker face, turning another laughter in the room.

Speaking of the action of the match between India and New Zealand, the hosts skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked the Kiwis to bat first; batting first, New Zealand scored 273 runs, losing all the wickets in the allotted 50 overs courtesy of the brilliant century scored by Daryl Mitchell.

While chasing the target, India crossed the line in 48 overs, scoring 274 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and won the match by 4 wickets to register their fifth successive win in the fifth match of their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.
