The India vs Afghanistan 3-match T20I series is about to begin tomorrow with the first match happening at Mohali. The selectors had already given everyone a surprise by including the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will be playing their first T20I since the T20 World Cup semi-final in England in 2022. The squad still looks good with the perfect amount of depth and balance. The people are excited to see the two greats play the shortest format after a long break and see Rohit back leading the side as well. All eyes will be on this team against a promising Afghanistan side.
However, some great players were not included in the squad and left everyone scratching their heads. It was tough to see the likes of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan not being part of this squad. The likes of Iyer and Kishan in the squad are a bit of a surprise since they have been giving some great performances in recent times. Iyer was even the vice-captain in the earlier T20I series against South Africa as well, which makes his exclusion from the squad a mystery.
Reports of exclusion on disciplinary grounds
There have been several reports on both Kishan and Iyer that they were not included in the squad on disciplinary grounds. It looks likely since Kishan had exited from the South Africa series due to mental fatigue and was later seen partying in Dubai. This did not sit well with the fans as the reason he was out of the squad was to spend more time with his family.
Iyer, on the other hand, was having some problems with the selectors who did not like his shot selection in the last series he played and wanted him to play some Ranji trophy. The batter, however, told the board that he wanted a time off.
The exclusion of these two upcoming talents of Indian cricket is really one of the most surprising turn of events as they were being backed by the Indian Cricket Board for a long time.
