The Indian Cricket Board has been making some big changes right now. The idea of giving red ball cricket importance and bringing up talent has been one of their criteria. We all loved the way players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel have been performing. However, there are still some senior players that we have not seen in the mix for a long time. These people were the first permanent members of the team, just last season ago, but have been away from the blue jersey for a long time now.
The names that come to mind are Shikar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal. Dhawan was once one of the best openers in the Indian set-up and has had scores in every major international tournament he has played. He was also part of the 2013 triumphant Champions Trophy, which was the last major trophy India had won. On the other hand, Chahal was one of the leading leg spinners for the Indian team. He also had some great performances in the Indian Premier League(IPL) last season as well. It is tough to see these once-promising and talented cricketers stay out of the setup completely.
The board axes the two players
It now comes to our attention that the board has axed the two players from their central contract completely. Shikhar Dhawan was let go since he has not made it into the mix for a year and Yuzvendra Chahal has been left out due to poor performances in his last few ventures. There will be a lot of criticism regarding this decision as to why these stars were let go. Apart from Yuzi and Dhawan other players have been dropped completely as well.
Even senior players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have been dropped, who have been great batters in red ball cricket. With this Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have also been dropped due to disciplinary issues. The two had ignored the warnings of playing first-class cricket. This will surely be heartbreaking for some fans who were looking forward to seeing these two get back into action.
