In the inaugural Test match at Mount Maunganui, New Zealand defeated South Africa by 281 runs. In the two-match Test series, New Zealand presently leads 1-0. The credit for this victory belongs to Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson's outstanding batting effort.
New Zealand set a target of 529 runs to chase down for South Africa. In reply, South Africa manage only score 247 runs. Kyle Jamieson and Mitchell Santner took seven wickets combined in both the innings. But their performance was overshadowed by Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson scoring centuries.
In the first Test match against South Africa in Mount Maunganui Kane Williamson smashed 118 runs in first innings and 109 runs in second innings. He has also become New Zealand fifth player to reach two centuries in a Test match. While Rachin Ravindra scored his first Test century as well as scored his first double hundred in the first Test match against South Africa. Both had a partnership of 232 runs and helped New Zealand to reach the score of 511 runs in the first Innings.

Player of the Match award was given to Rachin Ravindra for his brilliant batting performance in the match against South Africa. Rachin Ravindra was overjoyed to receive this award.
After receiving the award, Rachin Ravindra stated, "It feels good in any capacity to contribute to team victory, given how difficult it is to be out there for four to five days and get the job done." This knock will be rated rather high because to the time we spent out there and the partnerships we formed to secure this victory."
Rachin Ravindra praised Williamson for his cool celebration, but he rejected to share the Player of the Match trophy with the New Zealand Kane Williamson.
He concluded by adding, "Nah, not at all. He's had 31 Test hundreds to my one, so I'm not sharing it. When you be a factor in a win, you feel exceptional. As long as you give your all, you'll feel like you belong, and the coaching staff is quite supportive of this."
