The auction of the 2024 Indian Premier league(IPL) had its fair share of surprises with a lot of records being broken. This has also been the auction where the 20 cr mark not once but twice. There have also been some big players who have not attracted any franchise and went unsold. Along with that there was also a lot of drama involved during the event as well. One of the most dramatic moments involved Punjab Kings when they seemed to have bought an uncapped all rounder from Chhattisgarh known as Shashank Singh at his base price of 20 lakhs.

As soon as the name was called out by auctioneer Mallika Sagar Punjab Kings owner Preity Zinta raised the paddle. With no bids by other teams the hammer went down and the player was officially sold to the Punjab franchise at 20 lakhs. The management wanted to withdraw their bid telling mallika that it is the wrong player, but were refused by the auctioneer making it clear that when the hammer went down the player was sold to the franchise officially. This moment also led to a lot of criticism towards Punjab Kings as well.

Punjab Kings gives their clarification

Surprisingly the team issued a clarification on social media stating “Media have reported on Shashank Singh being bought erroneously by the Punjab Kings. The Kings would like to clarify that the player was always on our target list." This statement implies that the team was always going to bid for Shashank but the team was still seen refusing the sale and were about to take back their bid. With this Punjab kings CEO Satish Menon also gave a statement regarding the selection of Shashank in their squad.

"Two players of similar names on the IPL list created confusion. I am delighted to share that the right Shashank Singh has been onboarded. He has put out some noteworthy performances, and we're ready to unleash his talent." This implies that there was just a mere confusion which led to a lot of negative media around the team. The Punjab Kings have also praised the player for his performance in the domestic circuit as well. It will be a sight to see if he shows some great performances and prove his worth.
