Pakistan appointed Wahab Riaz as the new chief selector of Pakistan's men's cricket team. The former Pakistan cricketer has been selected for the new post, following the exit of Inzamam-ul-Haq from the post. The end of Inzamam's regime was not good and disturbed the dressing room atmosphere of Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023. It came at the wrong time and was criticized by the cricket fraternity.
Inzamam was found to be involved in an organization as a stakeholder. For a person in the administration of the Pakistan Cricket Board, it was not allowed. Hence, Inzamam had to step down from his position. An enquiry was also set to happen against Inzamam, as he was accused of some of the biased selections in the ODI World Cup 2023. It all led to mental damage to the supporters of Pakistan.
The former world champions finished the tournament in the fifth position. Following this, there were many resignations in Pakistan cricket. In turn, there were new selections as well. Morne Morkel resigned from the post of bowling coach of Pakistan. The entire selection committee of Pakistan was sacked by the Pakistan Cricket Board following the bad performance of the team in the tournament.
A new era for Pakistan Cricket
The biggest shock for Pakistan was that Babar Azam resigned from captaincy. As soon as the announcement from Babar came, Pakistan announced Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi as the new leaders of Pakistan in Tests and T20Is respectively. The two players will lead Pakistan in their next assignment against Australia. There have been some significant changes in other posts as well.
Mohammad Hafeez was appointed as the new director of Pakistan Cricket. Reports claim that Hafeez might be announced as the new coach of Pakistan as well, which is yet to be confirmed. As there was no chief selector for Pakistan, Wahab Riaz was appointed for the post. The first major assignment for the former pacer would be to select the Test and T20I squads for the tour of Australia.
