The ODI World Cup 2023 was supposed to be the perfect swansong for both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. In the end, it turned out to be a hard heartbreak as Australia won their 6th ODI World Cup title with 6 wickets in hand on Sunday.

The next ODI World Cup will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in October and November. The team that played the ODI World Cup 2023 is most likely going to be watching the 2027 event on television.

As the next cycle begins from the current team who can make it? Rohit Sharma? Virat Kohli? Jasprit Bumrah? Who will take the place of the likes of Ravindra Jadeja or Suryakumar Yadav? In this article let us crystal gaze into the future of Indian cricket

Looking into the future of Indian cricket ahead of the ODI World Cup 2027 campaign-

By the ODI World Cup 2027 comes through, Rohit Sharma will be well past his 40th Birthday and Virat Kohli will be 39. Despite their talents with the bat, age does catch on and it might mean that India’s two most popular faces could very well be retired by then.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli cannot be ruled out but them being part of the ODI World Cup 2027 edition is more than unlikely. This brings us to the next question who could open the innings for India? the safe bet is Shubman Gill along with either Prithvi Shaw or Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Ruturaj Gaikwad could very well bat at number three and fill the huge shoes of Virat Kohli. The right-handed batter would be 30 years old then and perhaps even leading the CSK side. Shreyas Iyer will still be batting at number four and will most likely be the skipper of the side.

If they stay fit then Ishan Kishan at 5, Rishabh Pant at six, and Hardik Pandya at 7 could be an imposing middle-order. Hardik Pandya would be aged 34 and perhaps in the prime of his career playing the role of the finisher.

The Indian team would want to groom an all-round talent at 8 who can bat and bowl. Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav could be the fast bowlers.

While Bumrah and Siraj will be around 33 or 34 -years old, they will be seasoned campaigners. By the time the next ODI World Cup comes through even Kuldeep Yadav could be in the top echelon of spin bowlers.

Arshdeep Singh meanwhile would be a  major player at the age of 28 and will be starting to enter his prime. The bench could include the likes of Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson, Umran Malik, and Ravi Bishnoi. If this happens one can expect the next Indian skipper to be on the podium lifting the trophy for India. Unfortunately, the likes of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, and Suryakumar Yadav also miss out as time waits for no man.
