Australia’s swashbuckling opener David Warner finally broke his silence and opened up on the scathing commentary by his former teammate and paceman Mitchell Johnson on his retirement series and his previous wrongdoings in the Sandpaper gate. Warner replied that everyone is entitled to his opinion no matter how harsh they are and he has an exciting assignment to look upon focusing currently on it.
Warner's take on the whole matter has been the talk of the town for Australian cricketing circle after Mitchell Johnson opened a public attack on Warner in the weekend column of the West Australian. He had questioned Warner’s retirement plans and his inability to own up his previous wrongdoings.
Warner in a chat at Fox Cricket’s summer coverage in the Parramatta said, “It is what it is. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But moving forward, we are looking to a nice Test over in the west."
"I resonate with where I grew up. For me, it was a great upbringing with my parents, but it taught me every day... to work hard. My parents ingrained that into me.”
He further added, “When you get on to the world stage, you don't realize what goes with that there is a lot of media. A lot of criticism.
"But there are also a lot of positives. And I think what is more important is what you see today, people coming out here to support cricket, Australian cricket, and cricket in general. It is fantastic."
David Warner regards his time on an illustrious test career for Australia after the three test series against Pakistan starting from 13th November in Sydney. However, Warner has been in such great form in the red ball cricket since 2021.
However, most of the previous and current Australian players condemned Johnson for his demeaning comments on Warner and backed the latter by saying that Johnson could have been less personal and avoided personal attacks on the southpaw batter.
Australian captain Pat Cummins also backed Warner
Australian skipper Pat Cummins also jumped in support of David Warner and said that he has played with these players for quite some time and that the team is a close-knit unit that protects each other. He said, “I think we protect each other a lot. We have been through a lot over the years. Our boys, I've played alongside someone like Davey or Steve (Smith) for a dozen years now. (We are) fiercely protective of each other.”
