Cheteshwar Pujara recently scored his 61st hundred in domestic cricket. The star batter from Saurashtra notched up a brilliant hundred for Saurashtra in the game against Jharkhand. The 35-year-old scored 243 runs in 356 balls including 30 fours. The knock of Pujara helped Saurashtra to score 578/4 in their 156 overs. The performance of Pujara has helped Saurashtra to dominate the game.
Ahead of the series against England, Pujara has made a good case for himself to get selected. The star batter did not just stop after getting a hundred, but went on to score a double hundred in the match to make a statement. In the process, Pujara joined the elite list of batters with 8 or more double hundreds in the Ranji Trophy. It is a very good feat indeed.
Pujara is now the only batter apart from Paras Dogra to score 8 or more double hundreds in the Ranji Trophy. There are other talented batters in the list like Ajay Sharma and Abhinav Mukund, who have 7 double hundreds to their name in the Ranji Trophy. The likes of Manoj Tiwary, Surendra Bhave, and Ashok Malhotra who have six 200s to their name in the Ranji Trophy in India.
Batters with most FC hundreds from India
Pujara also joined another elite list with his performance against Jharkhand. The middle order batter became only the batter from India with most number of 200s in FC cricket. Pujara joined the elite list of cricketers like Don Bradman, Wally Hammond, Herbert Sutcliffe, Mark Ramprakash, and Elias Hendren. Pujara also became only fourth Indian batter to score 61 hundreds in FC cricket.
Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar are the only batters with more FC hundreds than Pujara at the moment. Both the Mumbaikars have 81 hundreds in FC cricket each. Dravid has 68 hundreds in FC cricket. Vijay Hazare and Wasim Jaffer scored 60 and 57 hundreds each in FC cricket. Former Indian middle order batters like Dilip Vengsarkar and VVS Laxman have 55 hundreds each to their name in FC cricket.
