Australian Cricket team captain Pat Cummins became part of the auction history after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) got him for a record price in the IPL 2024. RCB gave a difficult choice to make for SRH at the auction table. There was a bidding war between the two sides as they went behind the Australian captain. The two franchises literally rose the barrel for every possible extent and RCB stopped when it seemed too high.
It was a brilliant moment at the auction table, as all the teams seemed to be interested in the Australian captain. Cummins was going to be a hot pick in the auction. But this level of demand was probably unexpected. The initial franchises that showed disinterest in him were CSK and MI. The two arch-rivals seemed to have a bidding war amongst each other to get the star bowler.
That was when SRH stepped into the battle and bargained for the star player. Kaviya Maran seemed determined to get him at any cost. CSK and MI stopped after going to some extent. That was when RCB joined the bidding battle and posted a huge challenge for SRH. The price just kept on rising till both the franchises seemed like going for a battle of ego.
Record price for Pat Cummins in IPL 2024
Both the South Indian franchises were a bit too adamant to get him. Kaviya was raising the barrel for every reply from RCB. It seemed as if Cummins was the most valuable player in the world at the moment. It usually happens in the auction. Pacers, particularly those from Australia, are usually in high demand. Cummins was in unreal demand and eventually got picked for a record price.
For the first time in the history of the auction, a player was bought at a price of over INR 20 crores. Cummins created history as he was purchased by SRH for a record price of INR 20.5 crores. The Australian captain is now the costliest player ever in the history of the IPL auction. Cummins surpassed Sam Curran, who had set the record of INR 18.5 crores in 2023.

Spending 20.5 cr on Cummins while you already have Markram, Klaasen, Phillips, Jansen, Head and Hasaranga? SRH know they can only play 4 overseas players right?

Mark my words, he is going to have the worst possible season ever

SRH tricked again to buy a fast bowler at expensive price.

Cummins is deserving but has mostly underperformed in IPL
