Former Indian World Cup winner and batting stalwart Gautam Gambhir who never shies away from expressing his thoughts has taken a sly dig at the broadcasters and the Indian Cricket fans for putting an individual and in that process undermining the efforts of other members of the team.

In a video that is going viral on social media, Gautam Gambhir openly criticized the broadcaster for being a mere PR of Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli and tried to show a mirror to the Cricket fans by saying that we are not cricket-loving but a star-loving country as we put some players above the team.

He said that the broadcasters and the media keep showing one or two individuals every day on the screen and then we ask why is the other player underrated. Gambhir says that it is the broadcasters and the media who make a player underrated by constantly showing the other players with the same achievements all the time. He went on to say that we as country fans are obsessed with individual records rather than the team which is one of the reasons why we have not been able to win an Apex Cricket Council trophy in the last 10 years.

Gambhir shuts media after their comments on Indian Team

This video is getting viral at a time when the official broadcaster ‘Star Sports’ is under heavy criticism for shedding all the limelight on Virat Kohli on pre and post-shows and posters of their shows despite Rohit Sharma being the captain of India.

Gambhir spitted facts by saying that all the players of the Indian team have done well in the tournament but the media and the broadcasters focusing on a single player all the time showed how obsessed we are with individual performances rather than the team.

Gautam Gambhir has himself bear the brunt of being an underrated player. Despite being India’s highest scorer in the T20 World Cup final in 2007 and ODI World Cup in 2011, his contributions in winning both finals got underplayed by Dhoni’s captaincy and unbeaten 91 not out in the ODI World Cup finals.
