As the dust settles from India's ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, the attention is shifted to what's next, and at the heart of the discussions is the white-ball future of Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Currently aged 36, Rohit will be 40 by the time the next World Cup arrives in South Africa in 2027. The Indian Cricket Board is set to meet with Rohit Sharma and Chief selector Ajit Agarkar to outline plans for the next four years across formats.

India's immediate focus lies on the 2024 T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy and World Test Championship in 2025. Notably, India is scheduled to play just six ODIs in the next 12 months, making the strategic planning for the limited-overs format crucial.

Roadmap to success: Indian Cricket Board and Rohit Sharma discuss future plans!

A source from the Indian Cricket Board stated, "Before the ODI World Cup, Rohit had communicated that he is fine not being considered for T20Is. The selectors have been investing heavily in the youth in T20Is for the past one year. With the T20 World Cup happening in June next year, they are reluctant to deviate from that strategy."

Notably, Rohit Sharma has now moved to Number 4 in ODI Rankings after his heroic opening style in the ODI World Cup 2023

The upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, with Surya Kumar Yadav captaining, will provide a platform for the young talents to showcase their skills. This series, beginning in Visakhapatnam, is followed by three ODIs against South Africa next month and a subsequent two-Test series.

The Indian management plans to deliberate on India's ODI strategies post Indian Premier League and T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of player performances and dynamics.

As discussions unfold between Rohit Sharma, the captain, and the Indian Cricket Board, the cricketing fraternity eagerly awaits insights into the roadmap for Indian cricket. The emphasis on youth development and strategic planning underscores the commitment to sustaining India's cricketing prowess on the global stage. The next chapter in Rohit Sharma's career and India's cricketing journey promises to be both intriguing and pivotal.
