Sreesanth is no stranger to controversy as the 40-year-old finds himself in a new legal issue. The former Indian star has been charged under section 420 for cheating by a man in Kerala.
The former Indian pacer had played for India from 2005 to 2011 and won two World Cups with the men in blue. Sreesanth was part of the team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.
During the IPL 2013 season, Sreesanth was apprehended by the police for alleged spot-fixing. The Indian Court then handed the cricketer a ban before it was revoked and Sreesanth made a short lived comeback to the sport before his eventual retirement.
Former India star Sreesanth in trouble yet again-
Sreesanth the former Indian player has fallen into legal trouble once again. This time though the case filed on Sreesanth is for cheating. Sareesh Gopalan the complainant has charged Sreesanth and two others for cheating him off INR 18.7 Lakhs.
The two other accused are Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini who had taken the money from Mr. Gopalan under the pretext of building a sports complex in Karnataka’s Kollur area. The complainant had also been promised partnership in firm. As per reports, the former Indian star was named as the 3rd accused in the complaint filed by Mr. Gopalan.
Making his ODI debut for India in 2005, Sreesanth went onto play 53 games for India and picked 75 wickets. The right-arm pacer picked fifer once with a best of 6/55 versus England in Indore in 2006. His last ODI was the 2011 World Cup final in Mumbai post which he did not play in the fifty-over format.
In the test format, Sreesanth had played 27 games and picked 87 wickets with his last game coming during the 2011 tour of England. Sreesanth had picked 3 fifers in test cricket with a best of 5/40 versus South Africa in Johannesburg in 2006.
The former Indian pacer has also played 44 IPL matches with 40 wickets with his last appearance coming in 2013. After a spot-fixing saga, Sreesanth was banned from playing the game before the court revoked the ban in 2021.
