However, there is no doubt that there will still be a billion people watching this game for the thrill and excitement that it displays.
Through the course of this tournament, we have seen some amazing matches and great talent emerge. From the beginning of 2008 to 2023 the league has consisted of big sixes and close games. We have also enjoyed the big players coming back and some new young players showing their talent on the big stage. With this rich history, it is no surprise why some call it one of the biggest sporting events in the world. With a whole lot of fans and a lot of big players, there have been many experts and ex-international players who praise the league for what it has done for cricket.
Justin Langer’s Views on the IPL
Former Australia player and Coach Justin Langer has also had a lot to say about the league and how big it has become. Langer will also be coaching the Lucknow SuperGiants(LSG) in the upcoming tournament and will be ready to get back to business after his great tenure as an Australia coach. Langer has been intrigued by bringing up how his friends have talked about the IPL where he has said “Having sat with Ricky for so long and he talked about his time with the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. How much he loves the tournament. And Tom Moody, one of my best friends, he's been so involved in the IPL and just to hear them talking about it.” This was his motivation to work in the IPL which he disclosed in a LSG video.
In the video, he further praises the league saying “The IPL is like the Olympic Games. It is so big. Every game is a spectacle, it is so well received, it is so well supported, not just at the stadiums, but all through India and around the world. To have the opportunity to be a part of that is something I am very, very excited about. " Langer comparing the IPL with the Olympics says a lot about how the tournament has grown through the years and what impact it has on the players and the fans.
